Mortenson's Portland service center was established in 2012 as an extension of the company’s Seattle office to better serve our customers and business partners in Oregon. Having built facilities in the state of Oregon since 1984, the company and Pacific Northwest Mortenson team members are committed to providing world-class facilities to the Oregon market.

Markets served include water/wastewater treatment plants, hospitality, higher education, healthcare, mission critical, corporate/commercial, federal, municipal, and sports projects.

The Portland office extends Mortenson's services in the Pacific Northwest, further ensures we are delivering outstanding service to our customers and their projects, and enhances the level of support delivered to our project teams in the area.

Our recent recognitions for excellence include:

  • Excellence in Concrete Utility Category by the Oregon Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association (OCAPA) – Oak Lodge Phase 1A
  • 2011 DJC Oregon Top Projects – Newberg WWTP Phase 1

Jim Yowan
Vice President

Jim joined Mortenson in 1990, and serves as vice president of Pacific Northwest operations and manages the Seattle office. Jim sets the strategy and directs preconstruction, construction and business development activities, as well as P&L responsibilities. He is a recent past president of the local DBIA chapter.br>
The many projects Jim has been involved with include Providence Regional Medical Center, Everett – Cymbaluk Medical Tower in Everett, WA; Cheney Stadium Renovation in Tacoma, WA; U.S. Federal Courthouse in Billings, MT; and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Jeff Madden
General Manager
Jeff joined Mortenson in 1996 and moved to Portland from Madison, WI in 2012 to open the Mortenson Portland office. Jeff’s strategic focus, proven relationship-building and business development skills, along with his collaborative leadership style have helped successfully elevate Mortenson’s leadership in the communities in which he has worked. As general manager of the Portland office, he oversees Mortenson’s Oregon projects as well as helps secure new work in the state of Oregon and Southwest Washington area.

Jeff's extensive construction experience includes: Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery; Wisconsin Energy Institute; Research Complex 2 at the University of Colorado; the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, CO; and Terascale Simulation Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA.
Rodger Benson
Director of Project Development

Rodger’s responsibilities include leading relationship development and project positioning activities for new work in the Pacific Northwest. With an advocacy responsibility to our customers, Rodger leverages our resources to best contribute to the overall business success of all of our project partners.  He is also responsible for local public relations, proposals/presentations, and branding/advertisement activities.

He is currently an AIA Board Member, a founding member of the Washington State Project Review Committee,  and a long standing planning subcommittee chair for the NAIOP Community Enhancement Committee. His project experience includes Two Union Square in Seattle, WA, The Greater Tacoma and Convention Center in Tacoma, WA, The NOAA Western Regional Center Campus in Seattle, WA, and the Bank of America Corporate Headquarters campus in Concord, CA, and the NIOC Refinery Development in Isfahan, Iran.
