Minneapolis, MN - The U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division ("The Big Red One") is making a move from its current base of operations in Germany back to Ft Riley, Kansas. Mortenson's Federal Contracting Group has been selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Kansas City District to provide pre-construction services for the new $35 million Division Headquarters facility.
The contract may be modified to include the building construction as construction manager. The project is being designed by the Corps of Engineers in-house staff, with Mortenson providing design-phase guidance while working side by side in their Kansas City, Missouri office.
The Headquarters is expected to be a 3-story structure encompassing approximately 137,000 SF. The primary facility will include a Joint Operations Center, Network Operations Center, administration, conference rooms, Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, and a briefing room. The project also involves extensive site development, which will include Parade Grounds and "Victory Park" which will showcase statues and artifacts depicting the famed history of the Big Red One.
