Mortenson's Energy Group Announces A New Minnesota Wind Project

Minneapolis, MN - Mortenson’s Energy Group recently announced its seventh executed contract with enXco, Inc. to perform BOP Design/Build construction services on the 205.5-megawatt Fenton Wind Power Project in Chandler, Minnesota. The project scope includes building access roads, turbine foundations and the electrical collection system as well as erecting the wind turbine generators, placing the interconnect station, erecting the meteorological towers and building the Operations & Maintenance facility.
Project Statistics:
- 30 miles of access roads
- 137 turbine foundations
- Erection of 137 GE Wind Energy1.5-megawatt wind turbines on 80-meter towers
- Installation of 66 miles of 34.5kV underground electrical collection system
- 5 meteorological towers
Mortenson is the leader in Minnesota for wind energy construction. Currently there are 794 megawatts of installed wind energy production in Minnesota; Mortenson is responsible for 39% (315.5MW) of it. The Fenton wind farm will be the largest wind energy facility in Minnesota and will add 26% more wind energy production in Minnesota. Minnesota ranks 9th in the U.S. in wind energy production.
This facility will have the potential to provide energy to approximately 82,000 homes annually. Construction began in October 2006, with completion scheduled for October 2007.
