Mortenson's Seattle Office to Build New Kent Events Center
February 5, 2007
Seattle, WA - Mortenson's Seattle office has been selected for a new Events Center for the City of Kent and preconstruction services are underway. The $38 million project is an important undertaking as it will help the City progress toward its goal to become a unique urban center, generate significant revenue, and create many jobs over the 30-year life of the center. LMN Architects, in association with PBK Architects, is the project architect.
The Seattle Thunderbirds (Western Hockey League) will be the anchor tenant. We have been working with the team for several years, trying to build them a new home in three other Northwest cities. In addition to hockey, the Kent facility will be a venue for concerts and other public assembly events. The approximate size is 175,000 SF with a seating capacity of 6,500 to 8,000 (6,500 for hockey). This project has a very short preconstruction period, commencing immediately and ending with a construction start mid-May of 2007.
The first Thunderbirds game in the facility will be October 1, 2008—the first of the 110+ events the City expects will be hosted there each year.
