Mortenson's Federal Group Awarded Two New Projects Totaling $76.7M
June 25, 2007
Minneapolis, MN - Mortenson's Federal Contracting Group was recently awarded the Custer Hill Beddown Facility project at Ft. Riley, KS, by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District; and the P-707 Helicopter Training Facility at Naval Station Norfolk, VA by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic.
The Custer Hill Beddown Facility is a $66 million design-build project consisting of 10 separate buildings, including Brigade and Battalion Headquarters, Company Operations, Band Training, and Tactical Vehicle Mainitenance facilities totaling over 235,000 SF. The project also requires complete development of the 80+ acre site, including utility infrastructure to serve nearly one million sf of future facilities planned for the adjacent area. The complex will provide complete operational facilities for a Sustainment Brigade, attached to the 1st Infantry Division. Mortenson is also currently constructing the $40 million Division Headquarters facility at Ft. Riley.
Our design partner is Black & Veatch. Design work is well underway with construction start anticipated in June, and overall completion by November 2008.
The P-707 Helicopter Training Facility is the second phase of the P-705 / P-707 training facility. The P-707 phase is a $10.7 million design-build project that will add four additional training bays and auditorium / conference space to the P-705 Helicopter Training Facility currently under construction by Mortenson. The combined facility will include seven training bays with full motion and weapons / tactical flight simulators for training of Navy pilots on the MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter. The primary missions of the MH-60S fleet include combat search and rescue, special warfare support and airborne mine countermeasures. This project will support existing Navy aviation squadrons at Norfolk, as well as additional squadrons that will be relocating from other bases as a result of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) actions.
This project was awarded under our NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic Industrial MACC umbrella contract. This will be Mortenson's sixth recent major project at the Naval Station Norfolk.
The design process is underway with construction scheduled to start in July 2007, and completion by September 2008. Our design partner is The Benham Companies from Oklahoma City, OK.
