Mortenson's Denver Office Awarded Vestas Facility
July 24, 2007
Denver, CO - Mortenson's Denver office is pleased to announce the award and recent ground breaking of the new Vestas blade factory in Windsor, Colorado. Vestas chose Mortenson to join their design-build team with Thornton Tomasetti (New York, NY) based upon our expertise in manufacturing facilities, our proven track record on fast track projects and ability to deliver the project on the very aggressive schedule, and our competitive proposal.
The 200,000 SF factory will produce 1,200 blades per year, each measuring 120-feet in length and weighing 8.2 tons. The facility is being constructed on an 80-acre site where 6,200-feet of railroad track are in place to directly transport and ship the blades from the factory.
The Windsor project marks the first North American manufacturing facility for Vestas and will bring over 450 jobs to Northern Colorado. Attendance at the June ground breaking ceremony included Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, who lauded the project and Vestas for forging Colorado ahead in its pursuit for energy dependence.
The $42 million fast-track project will be complete in April 2008.
