Mortenson Selected to Build Minnesota Twins Ballpark

July 27, 2007

Minneapolis, MN - Mortenson's Minneapolis office was recently selected to build the new Minnesota Twins ballpark in downtown Minneapolis’ Warehouse District. Minnesota’s new one-million SF, 40,000-seat, open-air ballpark will feature superior baseball sightlines from every seat and spectacular views of the Minneapolis skyline.

The eight-acre site sits at the convergence point of the Light Rail Transit, the future Northstar commuter rail line, the Cedar Lake Bike Trail, and Interstates 394 and I-94.  Whether fans arrive by foot, bike, bus, car, light rail or commuter rail, the ballpark promises to be one the most accessible sports facilities in all of American sport.

The new ballpark strives to be one of Major League Baseball’s most environmentally friendly ballparks with a variety of sustainable materials and methods incorporated into design and construction.  Upon completion, the project will be reviewed by the U.S. Green Building Council with the hopes of becoming a LEED® Certified ballpark.

Working with Mortenson will be Thor Construction Company, the state’s largest African-American-owned construction company and a long-time business associate of the company.  Architects of the ballpark are HOK Sport of Kansas City, MO; and Hammel, Green and Abrahamson Inc. of Minneapolis, MN.

“We look forward to bringing to life this great ballpark that will celebrate outdoor baseball in Minnesota,” said Ken Sorensen, vice president and general manager of Mortenson’s Minneapolis office. “Working closely with HGA and HOK Sport, we will build a ballpark for all Minnesotans to call home.”

Construction on the new stadium is expected to begin spring of 2007, and is scheduled to open for the 2010 season. For more information on the ballpark, visit www.twinsbaseball.com/newballpark.
