Mortenson Federal Group Awarded Aircraft Hangar and Maintenance Facility

August 29, 2007

Minneapolis, MN - Mortenson's Federal Contracting Group is pleased to announce that we were selected to design and construct a $53.5 million Aircraft Hangar and Maintenance Facility on Norfolk Naval Air Station.  This task order is the last to be issued under our original Hanger/Industrial MACC (Multiple Award Construction Contract) with the Navy, as its five year duration draws to a close.  Under this original MACC, Mortenson secured  multiple projects and developed a solid reputation that now carries forward with two new MACC’s with this key customer.

The mission of the P-201V project is to provide landing, maintenance, and storage space for a Navy Airborne Mine Countermeasure (AMCM) Squadron that is being relocated to the Norfolk Base. The Squadron’s mission is to utilize MH -53 helicopters to pull sonar equipped “sleds”, via a long cable, across the water surface to detect mines in the shipping lanes.

Our design partner is TranSystems, who was also the designer of record for the P-522 and P-524 hangars constructed by Mortenson at Norfolk NAS.
