Mortenson to Build Another Wind Turbine Facility for Vestas Blades America

April 7, 2008

Denver, CO – Mortenson Construction is pleased to announce that the company has been selected to build a second project for Vestas Blades America in Windsor, CO.  The general contractor is the leading “energy construction” company in the nation, and is currently working on renewable energy related facilities being built throughout the United States.

“We’re very proud to once again be the general contractor for another Vestas facility in Northern Colorado,” said Bob Hansen, vice president of Mortenson.  “We have the experience, manpower and team necessary to address the specific needs of the renewable energy industry, and are able to build quality facilities within the timeframes and budgets our clients require.  The renewable energy industry has become an important market for Mortenson, and we’re looking forward to working on the latest Vestas manufacturing facility.”

The newest Vestas project includes a $37 million, 175,000 square foot expansion of existing manufacturing and administration areas.  Construction is underway and is scheduled for completion in early 2009.

Mortenson recently completed the first phase of the Vestas wind turbine plant, a $43 million, 186,000 square foot facility which includes offices, blade manufacturing areas, blade paint booths and cranes to lift and transport the blades.  Knowing that “time to market” is critical to Vestas, the facility was completed in 10 ½ months.
