Mortenson Selected to Build Washington State's "Legacy" Project
May 15, 2008
Seattle, WA - The Washington State Department of General Administration chose Mortenson’s Seattle office as partner for its “Legacy” project on Washington’s Capitol Campus in Olympia. The $160 million Heritage Center and Executive Office Building is one of Seattle’s most significant wins in recent years. The new 325,000 SF "Legacy" building will be the first project built on the west side of the capitol campus in 50 years. It will sit on the site of the existing General Administration Building, which will be demolished as part of the scope of work.
The project is split to serve two separately managed functions. The lower portion will be the 205,000 square foot Heritage Center, housing a museum, cafe, performance auditorium, conference center and other facilities for campus visitors. It will also contain the state library and state archives including conservation and specialized environmentally controlled areas.
Tagged "The Peoples’ Building," this will be the site thousands of school children and others will visit each year to learn about Washington State’s history and government. It will be another Mortenson legacy to be enjoyed and cherished by Washington citizens and visitors for generations to come.
The upper portion will be the 120,000-square foot Executive Office Building, which will be used by statewide officials. Tenants will include the Office of the Insurance Commissioner and the State Auditor. Targeting LEED® Gold, the construction of the project is currently scheduled to start in January of 2010 and completed in fall of 2012. The project is already funded.
The project design partner is SRG Partnership whom the Seattle Office worked with on the Legislative Building Rehabilitation project (Washington’s State Capitol). This will be Seattle’s 30th GC/CM project in our state, making the office a leader in the GC/CM delivery. It will also be the 13th project that GA and Mortenson-Seattle has partnered on.
