Mortenson's Federal Group Awarded Project at Fort Lewis
July 10, 2008
Minneapolis, MN - Mortenson's Federal Contracting Group recently extended its reputation as the "builder of choice" for major projects at Fort Lewis, Washington with the award of the Special Operations Forces Support and Operations Battalion Complex. The $73 million project will provide new facilities to support Army Special Forces stationed in the Pacific Northwest. Fort Lewis is a key component in the warfighting capabilities of the transformed Army and serves as one of their 15 Power Projection Platforms.
This project follows a recently completed $16M project for the same end user and is the third project awarded and managed through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the last two years being executed by the Federal Group at the Fort. The project includes roughly 220,000 SF spread across a mix of building types including Headquarters and Maintenance Facilities, and includes significant site and utility infrastructure upgrades. These multi-story buildings will be supported using a structural steel framing system and clad with brick and metal panels. The buildings will be designed and built to current Antiterrorism/Force Protection standards consisting of expanded set-back distances and special explosive blast resistant windows and will meet LEED® Silver criteria.
The Design-build team for the project consists of RSP Architects from Minneapolis and Pease and Sons Mechanical and Ault Electric, both from Washington.
