Mortenson Awarded Third Project at National Renewable Energy Laboratory

August 19, 2008

Denver, CO - Mortenson's Denver office was recently selected as the design-build team for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Integrated Biorefinery Research Facility (NREL IBRF) in Golden, Colorado.

The IBRF will be used for research, development, demonstration, and deployment in support of national transportation fuel diversification objectives – specifically those associated with perfecting the advanced technologies that make fuel ethanol from cellulosic (plant fiber) biomass to demonstrate this approach can be cost competitive with corn-based ethanol by 2012.

Mortenson’s design-build partners include H+L Architecture (Denver), Merrick and Company (Aurora, Colo.) and Flad Architects (Madison, Wisc.).  The team will deliver a facility comprised of a new high bay area, new and modified laboratories and a new administration area that will house 30 NREL employees.

The facility will break ground in early 2009 with a 10 month construction schedule.
