Mortenson Announces Successful Completion of Colorado College Edith Kinney Gaylor Performing Arts Center

Denver, CO - Mortenson Construction is pleased to announce the successful completion of construction of Colorado College’s Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center. Colorado’s leading general contractor finished construction of the new $33.4 million, 72,400 SF interdisciplinary arts building earlier this year, and took part in the building’s dedication on October 10, 11 and 12.

The new Arts Center was designed by renowned architect Antoine Predock with Anderson Mason Dale serving as the architect of record. Mortenson was contracted to construct the performing arts center, providing a multitude of specialized construction services, including:
- A 450-seat auditorium
- An Inter-Disciplinary Expressive Arts Space (IDEAS)
- A 105 seat film screening room
- Digital media labs
- Costume shops
- Scene and set shops
- Green rooms
The building also includes several other unique features including housing all major mechanical equipment in an 8,000 SF room; a basement with four levels above grade, with one of those levels being a mezzanine for the auditorium; a structure that includes load bearing masonry and structural steel. The team utilized it’s industry leading expertise in 3D/BIM modeling to deliver the complex project on-time and within budget.
Mortenson has completed several important projects in Colorado Springs, including the renovations and additions at the Broadmoor Hotel, Fort Carson’s Company Operation Facility and the University of Colorado’s El Pomar Center.
