Fort Hood Awards Two Facilities to Mortenson

October 28, 2009

Fort Hood, TX - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has awarded Mortenson a design-build contract for two Company Operations Facilities (COFs) at Fort Hood, TX, which is located approximately 80 miles north of Austin. Black and Veatch is Mortenson’s design partner for this project.

COFs are similar in function to commercial office/warehouse buildings and are used as staging facilities by troops preparing for combat deployment. This project, totaling over 88,500 square feet, will involve the design and construction of the Patriot Pure and HHB ADA Company Operations Facilities.  HHB ADA refers to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (HHB) Air Defense Artillery (ADA). This is Mortenson’s first project at Fort Hood, which is home to several major Army units, including the 1st Cavalry Division, 1st  Army Division West, the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and the 3rd BCT (from  the 1st Infantry Division).

Patriot Pure, the larger of the two COFs, will be designed to accommodate six companies and will include a two-story administration module, two readiness modules, and two covered hardstands. The HHB ADA COF will accommodate one company and will consist of an administration module integrated with a readiness module and covered hardstand. The administration modules will house company offices, conference and training rooms, storage areas and mechanical/electrical rooms. The readiness modules will include space for pre-deployment preparation, training, maintenance activities, combat equipment storage, and TA-50 lockers. Pre-engineered metal hardstands will provide sheltered space for equipment staging.

Both COFs will be built to satisfy DoD Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) requirements and are designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification.
