November 9, 2009
Fort Eustis, VA - The Norfolk District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Mortenson a design-build contract to repair and renovate the west wing of Building 705 at Fort Eustis, VA. This is Mortenson’s first project at Fort Eustis and is the first task order in the Norfolk District BRAC MATOC (Base Realignment & Closure Multiple Award Task Order Contract) which Mortenson was awarded in October of 2007. MMM Group is Mortenson’s design partner on this project.
This project will renovate the west wing of Building 705, a total of 43,718 square, and provide an aesthetically appealing and professional work environment for the 93rd Brigade. Using quality materials, interior finishes will be durable and easy to clean. LEED® certifiable features will be introduced where possible, including the use of sustainable materials, low VOC wall and floor coverings and adhesives and non-toxic paints. The Command Suite will be provided with improved sound insulation.
Stairwells and restrooms will be brought up to ADA compliance. Life safety measures, including a new fire sprinkler system and alarms, will be installed to conform to FRP, NFPA and OSHA requirements. The project will also introduce upgraded utilities and services, including energy efficient heat pumps and air handling equipment as well as new electrical service, lighting, telecommunication and data systems, and a mass notification system.
Fort Eustis is located approximately 15 miles southeast of Colonial Williamsburg, and is home to the 93rd Signal Brigade, the current occupants of the west wing of Building 705. The 93rd Signal Brigade is responsible for the command and control of the eastern U.S. region of LandWarNet, the Army’s global information network.
