Mortenson Awarded Student Dormitory Project at Goodfellow Air Force Base
November 16, 2009
Mortenson's Federal Contracting Group was awarded a design-build contract for a new Student Dormitory at Goodfellow Air Force Base near San Angelo, Texas, which is located in west central Texas, approximately 200 miles northwest of Austin and 240 miles southwest of Fort Worth. The $20 million project is a 200-room, multi-story dormitory for the US Army Corps of Engineers. It is one of our first projects to be built with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The 113,882 square foot dormitory includes a 6,300 square foot pavilion/basketball court and will be used by Air Force Airmen finishing their technical training. The three-story facility will have 200 two-person bedroom modules (400 students total) and will include an administrative area, laundry, parking and other site improvements. The sustainable features of the project will contribute to earn a LEED® Silver certification. Our design partner for the project is the Miami office of PBS&J Architects.
The project is estimated to complete in February 2011.
