The staff of Mortenson’s China office is pleased to report that the $220 million Guangzhou International Sports and Entertainment Center is making good progress.
Located in Guangzhou, China, approximately 174 kilometers (108 miles) northeast of Hong Kong, the International Sports and Entertainment Center is located in the heart of the Luogang New City District of Guangzhou.
The 121,400 sq meter (1,306,738 sf), five-story arena will seat 18,000, and will include luxury suites, and VIP clubs and restaurants. The arena will host Asian Games events in 2010, and become home to a wide variety of world class events such as basketball, international ice events, and major music concerts. With its elegant design and focused construction execution, it will be recognized as the premiere sport and entertainment destination for Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta Area.
According to the China Daily, the arena is expected to become the nation’s third largest comprehensive sports and entertainment facility, after the Beijing Wukesong Gymnasium project and Shanghai’s World Expo Performance Arts Center.
The project began on October 15th, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed by September 30th, 2010.
