Mortenson Selected to Build Six Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facilities at Fort Carson

May 1, 2009

Colorado Springs, CO  – Mortenson Construction is pleased to announce that the company has been selected to build six new Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facilities (TEMF) at Fort Carson Army Base on behalf of the Army Corps of Engineers.  The newest facilities will include four medium and two small building designs, totaling $63.9 million.  The work follows Mortenson’s successful construction of eight previous TEMF facilities at Fort Carson.

Mortenson’s design-build team includes the Minneapolis office of LEO A DALY, an international architecture, planning, engineering, interior design and program management firm, for architecture, engineering and project management services, PBS&J for civil design services, and RK Mechanical and E-Light for mechanical and electrical services.

“We’ve had a strong relationship with the Army Corp of Engineers and we’re very proud of our ability to meet the needs in a timely and knowledgeable manner,” said Bob Hansen, Vice President of Mortenson.  “Our ongoing work signifies how successful the TEMF’s have proven to be in meeting the demands of Fort Carson.  We’re looking forward to beginning work on these newest facilities.”

Design work for the newest TEMFs is already underway, with construction scheduled to begin in July.

Each of the buildings are composed of two areas: Repair bays which provide maintenance areas for various types of armored vehicles and equipment and core areas which house administration, training rooms, tool storage, weapons storage, telecommunication equipment and locker areas. The facilities will be designed and built to LEED Silver criteria and will incorporate sustainable features such as enhanced building thermal envelope, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, energy-saving mechanical equipment, and lighting fixtures that are controlled by daylight and occupancy sensors.

“We are pleased to partner with Mortenson Construction to design a facility that is not only economical, durable and versatile but also flexible enough in its use to serve the evolving needs of the United States Army,” said Charles Ault, LEO A DALY Minneapolis’ Managing Principal.
