Lakewood Cemetery Selects Mortenson to Build New Mausoleum
May 4, 2009
Minneapolis, MN - Lakewood Cemetery, an historic and symbolic landmark within the Twin Cities community, selected Mortenson for their new mausoleum. The cemetery, founded in 1871, is spread out among 250 acres along Lake Harriet in South Minneapolis and includes eleven miles of winding roads in a beautiful garden setting. The cemetery memorializes countless people, events and organizations that have made a difference in the Minneapolis community and nationally.
The project includes 3,500 niches and 750 crypts that will be built adjacent to their existing 49 year-old-mausoleum. A reception space, committal room and private family areas will also be included. The $20 million project is scheduled to begin in April 2010 and to be completed August 2011.
“‘Timeless’ is the theme for this project,” says Kendall Griffith, Director of Operations, “everything we do - from the selection of the right materials to building a durable structure – all of it must be built to last forever.”
Project partners include Nelson Tietz & Hoye, as the owner’s representative, and HGA Architects. Carrier Mausoleum Construction U.S.A. will provide market analysis, programming and concept design. The major factor in our selection was our outstanding relationships with HGA and Nelson, Tietz & Hoye through our successes on Bigelow Chapel, Walker Art Center and Minnesota Public Radio.
“Our excitement and passion for this project was very evident and played in our favor,” says Scott Ganske, Construction Executive. “It’s also apparent that our partners trust us and value our expertise.”
