Mortenson Canada Corporation Expands its Presence in Wind Energy Construction

March 12, 2010

Mortenson's Renewable Energy Groups have recently been awarded the Gosfield Wind Project in Ontario, Canada. This project marks the fourth wind power project that Mortenson will construct in Canada.

Mortenson has a successful alliance with Brookfield Renewable Power, a leading global producer and developer of renewable energy based in Quebec. The Renewable Energy Groups constructed both Phase I and Phase II of the Prince Wind Project in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario for Brookfield in 2005-2006. The Renewable Energy Groups are thrilled to join with Brookfield again, this time for the construction of the 50-megawatt Gosfield Wind Project in southwestern Ontario, an agricultural region often referred to as the Canadian “Banana Belt”.  The Gosfield project is the first award as a result of a long-term Alliance Agreement we now have with Brookfield.

The Gosfield Wind Project calls for the installation of 22, 2.3-megawatt Siemens wind turbines with 101 meter rotors, currently the largest rotor available in the North American market. This is our first opportunity to self-perform the installation of Siemens turbines.  The total cost of the project is $ 149  million Canadian. The project was mobilized January 2010 and is scheduled for completion by September of 2010.
