Mortenson Selected as Design-Build Leader for Triple-A Baseball Stadium

Seattle, WA — The City of Tacoma and the Tacoma Rainiers Triple-A Baseball Club have selected the Mortenson-led design-build team to renovate Cheney Stadium, a 50-year-old baseball stadium in Tacoma, Washington.
Renovations include refurbishing precast concrete in the main stadium seating areas, seismic stabilization of the structure, adding new concessions as well as a team store, kitchen, clubhouses and expanded dugouts. Preliminary designs include a new concourse, luxury spectator suites and concourse, and restroom facilities. Electrical service, site work, stadium lighting, and utility upgrades will also be a part of the renovation.
The $23.5 million project will be in design until construction starts next fall after the 2010 season, with work completing in March of 2011. The renovated stadium will be one of the preeminent ballparks in the Pacific Coast League.
