Fort Leonard Wood, MO — The Fort Worth District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Mortenson Construction a $10.3 million design-build contract for the new 25,000 square foot Warrior in Transition (WT) Barracks at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. TranSystems is Mortenson’s design partner for this project.

The new project involves the design and construction of an apartment-style barracks facility for single soldiers who are recuperating from injuries sustained during their service. The barracks is part of a larger Warrior in Transition Complex which also will include administrative facilities and a Soldier Family Assistance Center (SFAC). The barracks will include 24 handicap accessible apartments. Twelve of the units will be 2+2 configurations (two bedrooms and two bathrooms). The remaining 12 will have 2+1 configurations (two bedrooms and one shared bathroom). Each unit will have a full kitchen. A single-story building with multiple entrances and an extensive sidewalk network, the layout of the barracks will allow residents to enjoy the surrounding landscape and interact more actively with other residents, visitors and members of the Fort Leonard Wood community. The barracks’ location will also provide residents with unencumbered access to the rest of Fort Leonard Wood, with easy access to parking and bus transportation. The barracks will be designed to comply with Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (ATFP) requirements and the goal is to achieve LEED Gold certification.
