University of Colorado Selects Mortenson for Energy Improvements

Denver, CO — Mortenson is pleased to announce our selection by the University of Colorado Denver for energy improvements to Research I on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
The University commissioned a study to evaluate the cost effectiveness of implementing a number of energy conservation measures to reduce operating costs and bring utility costs in-line with Research II. As a result, Mortenson will be working with Cator Ruma & Associates (MEP Design) over two phases of work to include:
Phase I:
- Add lighting control system for South Tower
- Retrofit constant volume fume hoods into variable volume fume hoods for South Tower
Phase II:
- Add heat recovery loop for the South Tower HVAC system
- Add evaporative cooling to the South Tower HVAC system
- Add heat recovery loop for the Vivarium HVAC system
- Add evaporative cooling to the Vivarium HVAC system
- Reduce vivarium supply aand exhaust air
- Add condensate return pipe to sterilizers
An integrated project delivery method will be used on this $6.8 million upgrade. Construction begins in July with completion in April 2011.
