Mortenson Attends Dedication Ceremony of the New Children’s Hospital of Illinois and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center
December 13, 2010
Peoria, IL — The Blessing and Dedication Ceremony of the New Children’s Hospital of Illinois and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center was recently held in Peoria. The Ceremony not only marked the opening of the 10-story, 464,000-square-foot hospital addition, but also the 133rd anniversary of the founding of The Sister of the Third Order of St. Francis.
Completion of the Milestone Project—as it was referred to during construction—was truly a milestone for all project stakeholders. It was the largest building effort in the history of Peoria; marks the opening of the fourth largest medical center in the state of Illinois; continued Mortenson’s 10-year relationship with OSF Healthcare System and OWP/P | Cannon Design; and added another $200 million healthcare project to the company resume.
The new Children’s Hospital of Illinois and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center was designed to keep caregivers closer to the bedside and involve the families more in patient care. The theme of the hospital was inspired by a prayer titled Canticle of the Sun, written by St. Francis of Assisi. Symbols from the prayer including the sun, moon and earth and warm colors are incorporated throughout the facility.
