Mortenson Awarded Coast Guard Station Project in Texas

Sabine Pass, TX — The Contracting Division of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) recently awarded Mortenson a $16.5 million design-build contract for the design and construction of a coast guard station building at USCG Station Sabine in Sabine Pass, Texas. The project scope includes the station building with an unaccompanied personnel housing (UPH) wing, a boat house, and related sitework. This project has been funded as a task order under the DHS Design-Build National Multiple Award Construction Contract (NMACC). Mortenson Construction is one of seven prime contractors participating under this contract. STV Group, Inc. is Mortenson’s design partner on the project.
The Sabine Coast Guard Station and UPH Wing will provide administrative office space, housing for 80 people, boat maintenance bays and storage areas, central kitchen and full food service area, training areas, conference rooms, armory, restrooms, locker room, fitness room, laundry, boatswain’s shop, and storage areas. The project scope also includes extensive sitework and utilities, a boat house, a multipurpose recreational court, picnic areas, and an 8-foot wide running trail around the perimeter of the site. Preconstruction started in early December 2010 and project completion is scheduled for October of 2012.
USCG Station Sabine is located approximately 45 miles northeast of Galveston, Texas. This facility supports the Department of Homeland Security mission on the Texas coast, providing search and rescue services and maritime law enforcement.
