Mortenson Selected for Two Data Center Projects

Minneapolis, MN - Mortenson Construction was recently awarded two mission critical projects for new and existing customers, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Wells Fargo.

Blue Cross Blue Shield

The first project award came from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota (BCBSM), who recently hired Mortenson for their upcoming UPS Replacement project, which will upgrade the existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure that serves the primary data center at their corporate facility in Eagan, MN.

The $1.6 million, multi-phased project includes replacement of a 23-year old UPS system with new “2N” hot tie UPS systems, new UPS and battery rooms, new cooling systems for the UPS rooms with remote condensers, new lighting and power systems, renovation of storage areas, additional power units and distribution equipment, and replacement of their existing substation. The construction schedule and phasing is extremely critical for the project, as all systems must remain 100% operational during the upgrades. Phase A and B work must be complete, tested, commissioned, and fully operational by October 15, 2011 and Phase C work by February 15, 2012.

Wells Fargo

Building on our 22-year relationship with Wells Fargo, Mortenson was selected for the Wells Fargo Shoreview Operations Center Print Storage Expansion. The project is an interior remodel of the existing Shoreview Operations Center built in 2002, in order to accommodate increased statement production.

The $840,000, 20,000 square foot remodel turned around quickly in three phases that completed August 5, 2011.

• Phase 1 included a partial replacement of the concrete slab-on-grade in order to construct a new storage room.
• Phase 2 included the demolition of two existing rooms, reconfiguring the equipment and furniture, and construction of two new storage rooms.
• Phase 3 replaced the slab-on-grade to convert the existing area into paper roll storage.

The fast-track schedule for this project required a comprehensive logistics plan with detailed phasing and sequencing to ensure that we met the customer's deadline.
