Tom Gunkel

As chief executive officer and president of M. A. Mortenson Company, Tom’s responsibilities include executive management, strategic business planning, personnel resource management and overall business leadership. Tom joined the company in 1983, and in 1987, he was given the opportunity to open  a new office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which grew to be the largest construction firm in southeastern Wisconsin under Tom’s direction. He became vice president of Mortenson’s Commercial Building Division in 1994 and executive vice president of the company in 1996. Tom became president and chief executive officer of the company in 2000.

Tom is a member of the Construction Industry Roundtable and former board member of the Design Build Institute of America. In addition he has served on the board of Benilde St. Margaret’s School and is currently serving as a member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering Industry Advisory Board and the Charles Pankow Foundation.
