DBIA National Award
Mortenson's Navy’s Submarine Escape Training Facility won the prestigious 2008 DBIA National Award the national award in the “Public Sector Building Under $15 Million” category.
The Design-Build Institute of America's National Design-Build Awards honor “design-build projects that demonstrate successful application of design-build principles. In addition to being completed on-time and on-budget, award winning projects all have exhibited collaboration in the early stages of the project and the acceptance of single-entity risk. They are chosen for their advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery and finding unique solution for project challenges.”
Midwest Construction\'s 2009 Contractor of the Year
Mortenson was honored to be selected by Midwest Construction magazine as 2009 "Contractor of the Year." According to the magazine, this was in part because "Mortenson has beaten revenue odds through innovative approaches," including staying active in our long-standing markets such has healthcare and municipal buildings, and at the same time growing our expertise in specialty markets such as renewable energy, mission critical facilities, and federal contracting work.
AIA TAP Awards for BIM
Mortenson recieved two Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Building Information Modeling (BIM) awards from the American Institute of Architects. The University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus Research 2 project won in the "Design/Delivery Process Innovation Using BIM" category, and the Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center at Colorado College was recognized for "Creating Stellar Architecture Using BIM."
Distinguished Project Award
The Northwest Construction Consumer Council (NWCCC) awarded the Tulalip Hotel and Conference Center the 2008 Distinguished Project Award in the "Private Projects Over $10m" category. The luxury hotel complements the now-adjoining Tulalip Casino, also built by Mortenson in 2003. A unique contemporary Native American design scheme, the team's ability to deliver the project under a tight budget and a fast-track schedule, and the high rate of Native participation on the project were the hotel's highlighted features.
DBIA Best Project
The Cedar Creek Wind Farm project was awarded the "Best Project - Energy" by the Design Build Institute of America - Upper Midwest Region.
Gold Hard Hat Award
The Cedar Creek Wind Farm received the Colorado Construction Gold Hard Hat Award "Outstanding Industrial/Manufacturing Project" for construction performance.
NAVFAC Safety Award
Mortenson's P201V Aircraft Maintenance Hangar & Maintenance Facility for Airborne Mine Countermeasure (AMCM) Equipment received the 2nd Quarter 2009 Safety Award from The Facilities Engineering & Acquisition Division PWD Norfolk, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) MidAtlantic.
MNSHARP Award for Excellence in Safety
The project team at the University of Minnesota TCF Bank Stadium was recognized for excellence in safety management as the project was designated a MNSHARP worksite by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. The Minnesota Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (MNSHARP) recognizes companies who work together to develop safety and health programs that go beyond basic compliance with OSHA standards, and results in immediate and long-term prevention of job-related injuries and illnesses. TCF Bank Stadium is only the 6th construction worksite to be recognized by MNSHARP since the program began in 1996.
Top Projects of 2008
Mortenson's Harley-Davidson Museum project and Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center were selected as "Top Projects" by the Daily Report/Wisconsin Builder.
Arizona Best of 2008 Award
Southwest Contractor named the Polly Rosenbaum State Archives & History Building in their Arizona "Best of 2008" Awards, recognizing excellence in the Mechanical/Electrical category.
Builder of the Year
Mortenson's Milwaukee office was honored as the "2008 Builder of the Year" by Wisconsin Builder magazine.
Great Places to Work
Mortenson’s Minneapolis office was named one of Minnesota’s “Great Places to Work” by Minnesota Monthly magazine. The magazine highlighted Mortenson’s sabbatical program as one of the reasons the company was selected.
Environmental Excellence Award
Mortenson's Chandler Heights Community Facilities Project received the top prize, the Crescordia Award, in the Environmental Excellence Awards presented by the Valley Forward Assocation. According to the City of Chandler, this is "Arizona's oldest and most prestigious competition focusing exclusively on sustainability initiatives."
Governor\'s Innovation Award
The Governor Linda Lingle Innovation Award was awarded to the Kaheawa Wind Farm for its efforts to increase Hawaii's energy independence.
Best New Green Projects
Real Estate and Construction Review chose the new ShoWare Center as one of the best new green projects in the Northwest Region. ShoWare is the first LEED-accredited events and performance center in the United States, pending a LEED Gold certification. Some of the project's green elements include 94% diverted waste; 24% use of recycled materials; complete air quality building flush-out; energy efficient lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation, and ice-making systems; and double-flush toilets to reduce water usage.
Best 2008 Commercial Project
The Tatanka Wind Farm was honored with the "Best 2008 Commercial Project" award by the North Dakota Ready Mix & Concrete Products Association.
APWA Project of the Year
American Public Works Association Fox Valley Branch chose the Kane County Adult Justice Center as its "2008 Project of the Year." APWA is an association of public agencies, private sector companies, and individuals dedicated to providing high quality public works goods and services.
