Building a Landmark

After more than a decade of hard work by many people with a vision for a new ballpark - from planning, research, estimating, site searches, financing, designs, and much more - the Twins ballpark construction team was given the go-ahead to begin work.

As the lead firm for this project, Mortenson worked closely with the design team, public entities and stakeholders to bring the ideas and perspectives of all parties together for this unique project. The complex elements of this facility required resources such as comprehensive design phase management, unparalleled schedule coordination and disruption avoidance, site logistics, and integrated work planning to ensure quality.Virtual design, plans and schedule became a major part of the project's success.

When it was done, the project exceeded workforce diversity/inclusiveness goals and exceeded expectations in the participation of small-, women- and minority-owned businesses. It also became LEED certified, and the greenest major league ballpark in the country.

“I’ve never seen a sports facility of this complexity completed this far ahead of time.”

"This is truly an historic day in Twins history.  Considering the complexity of the site and extreme level of attention to detail in design and construction, to be complete two months ahead of schedule is a feat to be recognized and celebrated."
