Project Development Executive
Joel is a Project Development Executive for the Chicago operating group overseeing the business development team and focusing on supporting growth across all market sectors in the greater Chicago region. He is responsible for cultivating new, and growing existing customer and partner relationships as well as positioning for and pursuing new work. Working closely with the Mortenson Development team, Joel also focuses on early stage feasibility studies for mixed-use, multifamily residential and hospitality opportunities. His expertise is in multifamily residential and student housing, having spent the 12 years prior to joining Mortenson in the architecture industry in Chicago. His collaborative work ethic with the entire project team and high level of customer service has been a critical factor in the successful delivery of past projects which include the Design-Build Student Residence Hall at Valparaiso University with Mortenson Construction.
Throughout his 15 years of experience, Joel has worked on a multitude of multifamily and student housing mixed-use projects in the Midwest region. Through various delivery methods including Public-Private Partnerships, Developer-led, Design-Build and University-led housing projects, he has gained experience in a wide range of construction types and architectural vocabularies. Joel’s previous responsibilities in the architecture profession ranged from Project Architect and Designer to Project Manager and Business Development. Joel is a LEED Accredited Professional and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with both a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies. Joel is an active participant in several local industry organizations and enjoys golfing and spending time with family and friends in both the Chicago area and Wisconsin.
