What does a construction manager do for multifaceted renovation projects on medical facilities?

Building Program Description:

Lurie Children’s (Formerly Children’s Memorial Hospital) selected Mortenson as the construction manager on their building program starting in 2001. Beginning with work at the Clark/Deming buildings, focus shifted to the then main campus in Lincoln Park where Mortenson completed over 20 multifaceted renovation projects within nine years, all on time and within budget. The following is a partial list of the complex projects that were successfully delivered for Lurie Children’s:

  • PICU Expansion and Renovation
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Special Infection Disease Laboratory
  • Stem Cell Laboratory
  • Genetics Laboratory
  • Cardiac Cath Lab
  • Outpatient Surgery
  • Cytogenetics Lab
  • 4 Bed Apheresis Unit
  • 1.5T MRI Replacements
  • 3T MRI Replacements

PICU Expansion and Renovation Description:

Included in the Building Program was the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Renovation. The project involved the renovation and build-out of 27,350 square feet of patient care space. This three-phase project was challenging and required very close attention to detail. Disruption avoidance and infection control were crucial for this project, as construction took place adjacent to the most critically ill children in the hospital.
