Wheaton College Traber Hall
Wheaton College Traber Hall Renovation / WheatonIL
Mortenson recently completed a major renovation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems at Traber Hall, a dormitory at Wheaton College. Traber Hall has seven stories of resident living areas above-grade and a lower level that houses the majority of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The primary scope of work for the project included the replacement of existing mechanical systems, as well as a complete renovation to the student lounge and restroom core area on each floor.

Because this building was fully occupied during the academic year, all work was completed over the Summer, prior to the student's return. In order to meet the critical completion date, our team deployed a unique phased approach that included the execution of non-disruptive work over the College’s Spring Break period and intricate coordination of trades so that multiple crews could be working in the building at the same time. The team also utilized prefabrication to assemble MEP ductwork, piping, and framed soffits off-site. Prior to beginning, our team laser scanned the building to verify existing conditions and ensure there were no surprises or schedule disruptions once construction began.
