In an effort to give back to the New Lenox area communities, Chicago’s Silver Cross Hospital project organized a new stewardship effort called, "Pay It Forward to the Community." Led by Laborer Foreman, Tony LeGraff, the team’s goal was to collect food for the local pantry as well as raise money for MorningStar Mission.
The team set up a project-wide non-perishable food donation station, collecting food over a two week period to give to the Fairmont Community Center located in nearby Lockport. Over two truckloads of goods were collected and delivered to the local pantry in need.
Tony rallied the Mortenson and other Silver Cross Hospital team members and subcontractors to generate financial donations for MorningStar Mission in Joliet. Lead Laborer, Les Filkin, donated six football jerseys, which collected $500; $1800 in the "Split the Pot" raffle resulted in the winner, Mechanical Inc.’s, Larry Voss graciously giving half the pot back to the Mission. Additional cash donations of $1900 brought the grand total Mortenson collected for MorningStar Mission to $4,200.The team plans to make "Pay It Forward to the Community" a quarterly event.
