Senior Vice President
As Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mortenson’s National Projects Group, Derek provides overall leadership and strategy development. In addition to overseeing some of Mortenson’s largest and most technically challenging projects, Derek has led the firm in the development and implementation of technology for the past two decades—in particular, the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), and has been at the forefront of Integrated Project Delivery.
Derek has traveled extensively, building complex and technical projects in Northern Ireland and across the United States. Prior to heading up the National Projects Group, he was the Director of Project Development for Mortenson’s Denver office and a project manager on the Walt Disney Concert Hall project in Los Angeles where he collaborated with Stanford University’s Center for Integrated Facility Engineering in the development and implementation of the industry’s first 4D model.
Derek received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California State University and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accredited professional. He currently serves as the foundation president and a sponsor representative for the Stadium Managers Association and is a panelist for the Center for Integrated Facility Engineering.
