The project site for the new Pinnacle Bank Arena, a catalyst for new urban growth in the West Haymarket area of dowtown Lincoln, Neb., housed active railroad tracks on both sides of the planned arena. Before construction could begin, the tracks needed to be removed, thus minimizing the time to complete construction.
To keep on schedule, the original design of an all-concrete bowl was reconfigured for steel and concrete to enable early fabrication and earlier construction - immediately after the tracks were removed. The team of DLR Group, Buro Happold and Mortenson Construction maximized use of digital tools for the re-design, using the model in the field and in fabrication, allowing for more accurate bids, tighter procurement and ultimately, more timley construction.
