Q+A with Greg Huber of Mortenson Construction

With the raising of the first column in a ceremony tomorrow and the installation of the first structural steel, the Allianz Field construction project has reached a major milestone. To get here, Mortenson Construction has spent the past five months removing 200,000 cubic yards of dirt from the site and laying 10,500 yards of concrete to prepare what will be the south end of Allianz Field. Construction Executive Greg Huber provides oversight for the entire project for Mortenson and he sat down with us to talk about what’s happened so far with Allianz Field ahead of tomorrow’s event. The Tower Crane is Up and Mass Excavation Has Begun at Allianz Field

Allianz Field will be the new the home for the Minnesota United and construction is officially underway. The tower crane was erected last Friday and the first foundation walls and columns have been poured. Additionally, crews have removed over 120,000 cubic yards of soil from the site. The soccer stadium groundbreaking in St. Paul was largely ceremonial — a line of children and officials draped in Minnesota United scarves shoveled dirt while shivering supporters looked on. But Monday’s event included some updates about when dirt will really start to fly at the empty lot in the Snelling-Midway neighborhood.
