The design of the new 90,000 square foot Commerce City Civic and Justice Center was a replacement city hall for Commerce City. The building houses the various muncipal functions for the city including the judicial services, police services, administration, human resources, building department and the City Managers office. The project focused around respecting the landscape while intermingling in into the new urban infrastructure taking shape on the front side of the building. As part of the Prairie Gateway infrastructure project contruction started in February 2006 and completed in March 2007. The aggressive 13 month schedule included substantial challenges including working through the difficult winter, a 15 foot over excavation on the foundations, and managing the fast-track nature of the design to meet the schedule. The construction team implemented Indoor Air Quality procedures, waste recycling/sorting processes and strict protocols through the installation of HVAC systems to achieve LEED Silver recognition.
