Alomere Health Surgery Center
Alomere Health Surgery Center Expansion / AlexandriaMN
Expanding and modernizing for the next era of patient care

The new $7.4 million surgery center expands and modernizes the existing 1950s era facility, both aesthetically and functionally, by adding two new operating rooms and renovating two existing operating rooms. A new corridor was added to the west side of the 33,000 square foot building to update the façade and provide a walkway for added patient privacy. The new surgery center was designed by HGA Architects and Engineers.

Challenge

Alomere Health had a long corridor connection designed into the new surgery center. Once built, it felt empty, and there was a desire to display artwork in the space; however, due to time and budget constraints, purchasing art was not an option for the grand opening. Alomere reached out to Mortenson to help provide a welcoming space for the grand opening event and market the intentions of this space as a community art wall.

Solution

Mortenson researched local artists and sent a display call to provide pro bono art for the grand opening. During the event, community members toured the new space and were in awe of the incredible artwork. In turn, the local artist enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their work, and graciously allowed Almere Health to display their artwork following the event until permanent pieces could be obtained.

Result

The grand opening made evident the community's interest in creating an art gallery within the hospital as well as provided a beautiful community art gallery during the event. Alomere Health plans to continue the gallery as part of their community outreach and plans on partnering with a donor to name this gallery due to the positive feedback from community members.
