2016 Health Tech & Trades Career Expo

Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo

Mortenson recently attended the Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo. The event exposes local students in Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo and surrounding rural, public and private schools to occupational opportunities available in the health, technology and trade industries through hands on experiences. Our booth featured the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality head-mounted display used to explore 3D models of projects in a completely immersive way. This technology allows our customers to visualize projects before construction begins.

We also demonstrated how to use the Doorminator, a device that enables one person to install a door weighing up to several hundred pounds, a task that typically requires two craft workers. Students at the expo had the opportunity to install hinges and door hardware using the Doorminator. The exercise highlighted the basic principles of the carpentry craft and how Mortenson uses innovation to improve productivity. Over 4,000 students attended the event, held at the FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota.
