Alamo 5 Solar project is currently one of the world’s largest dual-axis tracker system. This 118 MWdc utility-scale solar project is located in Uvalde, TX and is being built using the Sun Action Tracker and crystalline modules by Mission Solar, Jinko and Trina. Each tracker contains 42 modules, totaling nearly 380,000 modules for the entire site.
The project incorporated a specialized mechanical foundation, driving of piers, structural mechanical assembly, electrical collection systems and a high voltage substation. The approximately 900-acre site was cleared and grubbed of the woody biomass chips and hauled off-site to be used as fuel in an industrial boiler. The majority of the scopes were being self-performed by Mortenson’s skilled craft team members.
Alamo 5 Solar will generate enough renewable energy for over 14,000 households. Project construction began September 2015 and was completed in early 2016.
