Mortenson Construction was selected to build the Balko Wind Project for new customer, Apex Clean Energy, Inc., a leading U.S.- based developer of commercial-scale wind and solar energy facilities in North America.
This is the Wind Energy Group’s sixth project built in Oklahoma. Located in the Panhandle of Beaver County, Oklahoma, the project site spans 40 square miles and offers favorable winds with its high plains terrain placement.
Consisting of 162 GE 1.85MW 80-meter wind turbine generators, Balko has a total output of 300 megawatts of single-phase output. Mortenson was responsible for complete EPC/BOP that includes substation, T-line, collection, civil, foundations and turbine installation.
Construction began August 2014 and completed the following summer. The site provides clean renewable energy for approximately 100,000 households.
