Development Begins Construction on Downtown Hotel

February 19, 2014 Hampton Inn Minneapolis

Mortenson Development, an affiliate of M. A. Mortenson Company, began construction today on the new, 9-story, 211-room Hampton Inn & Suites hotel located at First Avenue and Eighth Street in downtown Minneapolis. The new select-service hotel will be conveniently located near Target Field, Target Center and the entertainment district, and connected to the City’s downtown skyway system.

Construction of the new hotel property is being managed by Mortenson Construction. The $37 million project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2015. It is the first Hampton Inn & Suites in the City of Minneapolis. The hotel was designed by ESG Architects, Minneapolis.

“We are very excited to break ground on this urban development project,” said Tom Lander, vice president with Mortenson Development. “The vibrancy of the downtown Minneapolis market is evident everywhere you look. This property will be ideally located near major attractions and will provide tremendous accessibility to the downtown core, at an affordable price point, for the City’s guests.”

Mortenson Development believes the additional hotel space in downtown Minneapolis is desirable and will contribute to a healthy diversification of business, residential, sports and entertainment, and hospitality property types as the City continues to flourish.

Mortenson Development has experience in all the major development product types including data centers, healthcare, hospitality, industrial, multi-family and office. Several projects are either underway or recently completed across the country including a medical office building for Allina in Baxter, Minnesota; a health center for Aurora in Elkhorn, Wisconsin; a data center for Stream Data Centers; a Marriott at HARBORCenter in Buffalo, NY; and a data center for ViaWest.
