Mortenson Construction, a leading hospitality, sports, and entertainment builder in the U.S., is pleased to announce the completion of the 11-story, 205-key Buffalo Marriott HARBORCENTER hotel; the finishing touch on the nearly $170 million HARBORCENETER redevelopment in Downtown Buffalo’s Canalside District.
“Over the past three years, the entire project team has worked tirelessly to bring to life the vision of Buffalo Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula and deliver a truly transformational project to the Canalside District and the greater City of Buffalo,” said Derek Cunz, vice president and general manager at Mortenson Construction. Mortenson has been integral in this redevelopment constructing The Rinks complex; two NHL-size rinks, a high performance off-ice training facility, (716) restaurant and bar, and a 750 space parking ramp adjacent to First Niagara Center, all completed late last year. It is estimated that HARBORCENTER will draw 600,000 visitors annually to downtown Buffalo.
“I would like to thank the project team for their hard work and perseverance in achieving this milestone,” said Joe Handley, senior project manager, Mortenson Construction. “We are all proud to have been a part of a project that has helped transform the city.”
The Marriott will open its door to guests by Labor Day, followed by a ribbon cutting celebration scheduled for end of September. The new hotel will be open for business in November.
