Discovery Square Phase I is the first of 6 sub-districts in the Destination Medical Center (DMC) development plan. The 90,000 square foot facility is a key milestone for the DMC—the largest public-private partnership in Minnesota state history, and one of the largest economic development initiatives in the U.S.
The project involves a variety of stakeholders, including the Mayo Clinic, DMC Corporation, City of Rochester, and local community. To ensure all voices were being heard, Mortenson, HOK and RSP developed a highly collaborative design process. The team held a series of charrettes, workshops and public engagement sessions to ask questions, generate ideas and ensure the project meets the needs of all involved.
Additionally, we implemented the use of Virtual Reality (VR), allowing stakeholders to virtually “step into” their new facility before it is built. Utilizing VR allows the team to understand complex problems ranging from design, layout, functionality and construction sequencing. The multi-faced, interactive scene created by the project team takes the user from an interior lobby to exterior site exploration.
We invite you to take an immersive virtual tour of Discovery Square Phase I. Click here to explore key spaces, including the facility exterior and aerial photos, lobby, and work spaces with our easy to use interface. The 4D animations, day/night toggle, viewable 360 panoramas, and point-and-click navigation illustrate the features of this exciting project.
