With the Aurora Medical Center Mount Pleasant project going vertical, the Building2Learn students ventured out to the project site to learn about steel erection. Mortenson Senior Superintendent, Ben Anderson, walked the students around the site alongside Jay Buncich from Construction Supply & Erection’s (CSE). With over 40 years of experience as an iron worker, Jay explained how he got into the trade, some of the projects he’s worked on, and then how steel is erected on a project. The students saw first-hand steel going into place as well as different steel members, anchors, and bolts used for structural support. After the project tour, Jay gave the students a lesson on welding and then each had the opportunity to try it.
