On Thursday, March 3, the Northern Arizona University Science and Health Building project team accepted the RED Award in the Education category. The award was given by AZRE Magazine, which recognizes the best projects in Arizona commercial real estate each year.

The new five-story, 120,000-square-foot building is the forerunner in energy efficiency and design, and is currently pursuing LEED Gold certification. The building includes 54 faculty offices, 9 interaction rooms, 10 interaction spaces, 18 research labs, 8 instructional labs, 5 classrooms and 3 lecture halls. The building includes a tunnel that connects to Building 17, allowing staff to transfer hazardous chemicals without exposing the public. Over 10 percent of NAU’s students are estimated to use the facility each semester.
