Minnesota Senate Building Wins National Design-Build Award

The Minnesota Senate Building has received a 2017 National Award of Merit in the Federal/State/County/Municipal category from the Design-Build Institute of America. The National Design-Build Awards showcase design-build best practices and celebrate the achievements of owners and project teams in ten categories. The Project of the Year and Excellence Awards will be announced on November 9, 2017 at the 2017 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Philadelphia.

The Senate Building is a 293,000 square foot facility, designed by BWBR and Pickard Chilton and includes offices for all 67 senators and support staff. It provides a workspace for over 360 people in a facility that fosters connectivity and collaboration. A 250-seat, theater-style hearing room and two 150-seat hearing rooms provide space to enhance the public’s ability to participate in the legislative process and supports critical IT infrastructure and broadcast capabilities. The facility’s design accommodates accessibility needs to ensure that all can participate. Approximately 94% percent of the facility was fabricated and built by Minnesota companies.

“Whether it’s a beautiful public facility, small commercial building, bridge or transportation project, America’s design-builders are showing in a big way how the power of integrated delivery and collaboration is delivering real value to their communities. This year’s DBIA National Design-Build Project/Team Award winners are truly the best of the best. Design-build projects like this year’s winners will not only improve the lives of millions of Americans they also provide innovation, time and cost savings at the same time. DBIA is thrilled to honor the Minnesota Senate Building project and this impressive list of design-build winners while also recognizing their contributions to their communities” said Lisa Washington, CAE, DBIA Executive Director/CEO.
