Mortenson Construction Expands Chicago Business Development Team

Rick M. Scheck has joined Mortenson Construction as a senior project development manager on the Chicago office’s growing business development team.

With more than 20 years of management, operations leadership and business development experience, Scheck brings deep understanding and expertise in the national industrial construction market as well as real estate, development, new construction and renovation in Chicago’s industrial and corporate markets.

Previously, Scheck led business development for Scheck Industries, his family’s $100 million industrial mechanical contracting business. In that position, he secured new capital and facility maintenance work in the refining, chemical, power, food and beverage, renewable energy and light industrial markets. Scheck also was involved with the operations of multiple departments including finance, project management, marketing and communications, safety, and the power business unit. He has developed client, contractor, vendor, union and other industry relationships throughout Chicago, the Midwest and the United States.

“Rick brings an impeccable pedigree in Chicago construction to Mortenson. His knowledge and relationships will help us move into new markets while also strengthening our ties with subcontractor partners,” says Greg Werner, senior vice president and head of Mortenson’s Chicago office.

“I was extremely intrigued at the opportunity to be a part of an organization that is strategic in its local and national pursuits and is highly diversified. Mortenson offers all of that and more,” says Scheck. “As an industry-leading general contractor doing complex, cutting-edge projects including the University of Chicago North Residential Commons and U.S. Bank Stadium, I am excited about working with and contributing to the growth of another family-owned business.”

Scheck is a graduate of Purdue University, holding a bachelor of science in building construction and management. He is a member of Pipefitters Local Union 597 in Chicago and is a previous board member of the Chicago Mechanical Contractors Association.

Throughout his career, Scheck has been actively involved with numerous charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society, Toys for Tots, UCP Seguin of Greater Chicago, American Heart Association, MDA and Hephzibah Children’s Association.
