Wheaton College Traber Hall Renovation / WheatonIL
Mortenson recently began preconstruction efforts for a major renovation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems at Traber Hall, a dormitory at Wheaton College. Traber Hall has seven stories of resident living areas above-grade and a lower level that houses the majority of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The primary scope of work for the project includes the replacement of existing mechanical systems, as well as a complete renovation to the student lounge and restroom core area on each floor.

Because this building is fully occupied during the academic year, all work must be completed over the Summer prior to the student's return. In order to meet the critical completion date, our team is deploying a unique phased approach that includes the execution of non-disruptive work over the College’s Spring Break period and intricate coordination of trades so that multiple crews can be working in the building at the same time. The team will also be utilizing prefabrication to assemble MEP ductwork, piping, and framed soffits off-site. Our team has already started laser scanning the building to verify existing conditions and ensure there are no surprises or schedule disruptions once construction begins.
