What design is best for building a new humane society and veterinarian clinic?

Mortenson was selected to manage the build of a new animal shelter for Larimer County. The new shelter will provide one location for shelter and administrative staff to improve efficiency and promote collaboration. Larimer Humane Society provides animal control services to the Larimer County region and the major municipalities within Larimer County.

Animal Arts Design Studio, Inc. designed the new humane society shelter to meet current regulations and animal care standards. The expansion of the new facility will allow for the humane society to continue to grow and continue to provide the best care for sheltered animals.

The new facility will include 120 dog kennels, including 36 indoor/outdoor kennels connected to pavilions featuring heated flooring and canine turf. The cat adoption area will feature eight indoor/outdoor colonies with heated flooring and vertical living space. The new veterinary facility will fully accommodate dental and surgical procedures such as spaying and neutering to reduce overpopulation. The new humane society shelter resides on 27 acres, featuring dog walking trails and two pubic dog parks.

The support services area will feature a dispatch call center, administrative offices, a retail store, food preparation, laundry, and separate entrances to allow for better service specific to the needs to intake or veterinary services. The on-site community and education center will provide training and outreach events for Larimer Humane Society staff and the public.
